Meet the Family
The Aurora Inn is more than a place to stay—it’s a story rooted in family, heart, and a deep love for the Annapolis Valley.
In 1981, Maureen Banyard fell in love with the property and made a bold leap from her role at the Aurora Newspaper into the world of hospitality. With determination and vision, she poured everything she had into creating something truly special – an inn that would not only serve guests, but elevate what a warm Valley welcome could be. Her genuine care left a lasting impression; legend has it that a Scottish air crew flying into CFB Greenwood was so touched by her hospitality, they gifted her a purebred Scottish Terrier puppy on one of their return trips.
Maureen’s daughter, Jacquie MacNeil, alongside her husband Tom, carried that vision forward as they led the Inn through its years as the Best Western Aurora Inn. For over four decades, they have been at the heart of its evolution – guiding it through changing seasons, economies, and the growth of the community – while continuously raising the standard of guest experience. Under their leadership, the Aurora Inn became a true cornerstone of Kingston and the surrounding area.
Today, that legacy continues with Jacquie’s daughter, Sarah Naesmyth, and her husband, Alex. After growing up in Kingston, Sarah’s journey took her across the world and eventually to Australia, where she met Alex. Together, they built a life and family before feeling the pull to return home to the Valley. With three children in tow and a shared sense of purpose, they’ve come back to carry the torch that was first lit in 1981.
For Sarah and Alex, the Aurora Inn is both a privilege and a responsibility. As one of the first to welcome guests when arriving in the Valley, they are deeply committed to creating an experience that feels both personal and exceptional. Their vision is simple: that every guest leaves remembering not just where they stayed, but how they felt—welcomed with genuine warmth, and cared for with a level of quality and attention that stands alongside anywhere in the world.
This is the Valley, the Aurora way.
We are committed to sharing the best of the Annapolis Valley directly with you.
